IDEAS AND INSPIRATION: FIFTIES HOUSEWIFE BABY SHOWER

Finding out that you’re going to be an aunt is such an amazing feeling, especially when the person delivering the news happens to be one of your closest friends…  Therefore when the time came to organise Aminah’s baby shower, I was finally able to put all my excitement and energy to good use!

The ’50’s Housewife theme had all the guests looking gorgeous, with polkadots, lashes and red lipstick galore!  Aminah looked absolutely radiant after my  1950’s-inspired makeover!  No theme could be better suited for a group of glamorous girlies, getting together for games, gormet (finger food!) and gupshup [gossip]!

In terms of the actual decor ideas and little details, the pictures pretty much speak for themselves.  However, being able to come up with a realistic list of shower games proved to be extremely difficult, considering they were all so adorably cute and hilarious!  But here are a few that managed to make the final cut, although sadly there wasn’t enough time for us to get through the final few!

Baby Shower Games:

  1. GUESS MUMMY’S TUMMY SIZE
Each person needs to cut a length of string to the size they think will fit around the Mummy-to-be’s stomach- the person closest wins.

  2. BABY SKETCH GAME
Each person has 30 seconds to draw a picture of the baby on a paper plate, whilst holding the plate on their heads!  The Mummy-to-be will choose the one she likes best!

  3. PASS THE BOTTLE
Each person must pass the bottle from one person to the next, without using their hands!

  4. BABY ADVICE HELPLINE
The chinese whispers equivalent: one person starts by whispering a baby tip into another persons ear, last person to hear it must announce the tip (please note: it is usually rubbish to begin with! Either that or very true!)

  5. PIN THE SPERM ON THE EGG
My twist on pin the tail on the donkey.  I am pretty proud of the uterus drawing, despite my mum mistaking it for Ursula the seawitch…! To make this game extra fun, ensure each person personalises their sperm with facial characteristics.

  6. GUESS THE BABY
Prior to the shower, collect a baby picture of each attendee and number the pictures in a collage.  Each person has 1 minute to fill out a form allocating the correct name with the correct baby.

  7. GUESS THE MESS
Each team must guess the contents of several numbered nappies, each containing one chocolate and one sauce/ food substance.

  8. GUESS THE BABY ITEM
Each person has 1 minute to feel the contents of a pillow case containing baby items.  The person with the most correct answers wins.

  9. BABY PICTIONARY
This can be quite fun to play in teams to get the competition going!  And the drawings can be pretty entertaining.

  10. BABY SHARADES
As with the above, this baby shower spin on the original game can be pretty good fun- some ideas include having to act out disney films, nursery rhymes, fairytales and children’s tv programmes.

I hope that this post and gallery helps to serve those of you who are seeking inspiration for your parties/events! I know that I for one spent absolutely ages searching the net for the perfect ideas!  I’d love hear about your experiences :)
